Gentle paths twirl across the grounds of The Gideon Putnam, merging the UPstate New York property with its natural park surroundings and inviting exploration right from the lobby. Walking, hiking, biking and snowsports are favorite guest pastimes across every season throughout their vacation.
Saratoga Spa State Park literally surrounds the hotel with miles of hiking and biking paths, mostly wide, gentle and paved. The Avenue of the Pines, est. 1912, is known as the “Pine Promenade” for its double rows of white pine trees. There are also natural trails to explore that follow the contours of natural spring-fed streams.
With winter’s arrival, visitors take advantage of the snow-covered splendor of Saratoga Spa State Park. Winter activities include cross-country skiing and snowshoeing along carefully groomed trails, and skating on a pair of open-air ice rinks. Downhill skiing is available at nearby West Mountain. Complimentary snowshoes are available to guests of The Gideon Putnam. Trails begin at the warming hut, located just off of the Avenue of the Pines.
