Our proprietary stewardship platform, GreenPath®, helps ensure we carefully manage our environmental impact and positively contribute to the communities we serve.

Environmental Management

  • Food Waste Diversion -
    • Aerobic Food Digester - 29 tons diverted since 2018
    • Compost - 56 tons diverted 2016-2017
  • Single Stream Recycling - 25-30 tons diverted each year
  • Toiletries Recycling - 4,070 lbs diverted to date, resulting in 13,138 new bars of soap and 3,211 bottles of shampoo redistributed to hygiene kits
  • Bulk Amenities - in 2019 we made the switch to bulk amenities in the guestrooms, which will eliminate roughly 55,000 travel-size bottles each year
  • Kitchen Waste Oil Recycling - 2,560 gallons collected for biofuel to date (~60 gal/mo)
  • Electric Vehicle Charging Stations - two Tesla and one Universal EV stations
  • Legally Required Recycling - waste paint, bulbs, ballasts, batteries, electronic waste, sharps
  • Miscellaneous Recycling - Printer Toner Cartridges, Wine Corks, Metal Dry Cleaning Hangers, Holiday Lights, Guitar Strings (when we hosted a guitar camp)
  • Expanded Polystrene Recycling (EPS) - 195 lbs to date
  • Plastic PDE4 Film - 675 lbs to date
  • Textile Recycling - 5,040 lbs to date
  • Textile Donation - 1,000 lbs sheets, towels, blankets to The Giving Circle for Hurricanes Harvey & Irma relief
  • Pillow Diversion - 600+ guestroom pillows diverted (many of those pillows were re-purposed into filling for dog beds)
  • Water Conservation and Linen Re-Use - cards in every guestroom encourage water savings
  • Glasses of Water, Compostable Straws, Bar Napkins are available upon request
  • Water Bottle Filling Station - installed in the conference center, and registered on the App FindTap
  • Installed EPA-certified WaterSense toilets, shower heads, and faucets in all guestrooms

Community Involvement

  • Since taking over management of The Gideon Putnam in 2008, Delaware North has given more than $450,000 worth of in-kind donations to local and Buffalo-based charitable organizations. We also sponsor our Park Partners: SPAC, Home Made Theater, Opera Saratoga, National Museum of Dance, Saratoga Automobile Museum, NYS Recreation and Park Society, Parks & Trails NY.
  • Each year The Gideon Putnam hosts an Earth Day event for local middle school students. We partner with Saratoga Spa State Park, tour and taste the famous mineral springs, plant a pine tree, and enjoy a healthy lunch in Putnam's Restaurant.
  • Food Donation - leftover food is used for employee meals, but we donated $2,329 in food to Saratoga Economic Opportunity Council - 2018

Facilities and Asset Protection

  • Delaware North has committed $20M toward capital improvements of both The Gideon Putnam and Roosevelt Baths & Spa
  • Ceiling Tile Recycling - 4,500 sq. ft.
  • Carpet Recycling - 14,530 lbs
  • Wooden Blinds - donated to Habitat for Humanity ReStore
  • Dyson blade hand dryers in conference room bathrooms
  • Scrap Metal Recycling - 40,460 lbs diverted in 2018
  • Continuing to install energy-efficient HVAC units in all guestrooms
  • LED Lighting - we have switched most of our lighting to LED
  • Donated mattresses, sofa beds, TV's from guestroom renovation

Healthy Living

  • More than 60 treatments, including the world-famous mineral baths, available seven days a week at our Roosevelt Baths & Spa
  • Weekly Wellness Activities: Yoga, Kripalu Yoga, and Boot Camp.
  • Wellness Weekend Retreats offered at least twice per year.
  • Wellness Meetings - add-ons include menu alternatives, chair massage breaks, spa services and mineral baths, meditation, yoga, interpretive walks through Saratoga Spa State Park, wellness seminars led by experts in their fields focusing on greater health and well-being
  • Zero-Waste Meetings: healthy local eating, compost bins, recycling bins, skip the use of disposable serveware, bottles and single-serve packaging
  • ToGo containers are either compostable or made from recycled plastic bottles, utensils are made from compressed leaves
  • We use a certified green dry cleaner

Interpretation and Education

  • In 2017, Environmental Manager, Heather Coton won NYSAR3 Recycling Leadership award for the Private Sector
  • Green Programs - DECNY Green Business since 2014, TripAdvisor Green Leaders Silver Certification since 2013, Audubon International Green Lodging Silver Certification since 2009
  • Award Received on behalf of Delaware North - from New York League of Conservation Voters
  • In 2017 we started regular Facebook posts called "Today in GreenPath® News," to highlight our sustainable achievements, as well as environmental stories from our community and around the globe
