Healing Waters of Saratoga Springs

Water is Saratoga's chief elixir, the current that races throughout The Gideon Putnam guest experience.

Woman cupping her hands together to catch natural spring water.People have long celebrated the restorative powers of this special place. Built literally atop Saratoga Springs, The Gideon Putnam is fortunate to have a bountiful supply of natural mineral-rich spring water running deep below the property, and more than a dozen active mineral springs around it. Our guests soak it up year-round. After all, water is a powerful force. It can carve and smooth even the hardest rock. Imagine what it can do for you.

Here, local geology has created the only active carbonated mineral springs east of the Mississippi River. Several layers of limestone lie beneath the region's topmost layer of shale bedrock. As deep underground water percolates through layers of limestone and shale, it dissolves and absorbs minerals from the rock. Charged with carbon dioxide, the water finds its way through a network of fissures to the surface, creating Saratoga's legendary springs; Ferndell, Polaris, Karista, and the Coesa Spouter, to name but a few.

"Great place, beautiful inside and out. The service was outstanding there. The staff very friendly had a fantastic time. You can hike on the property. They have 2 swimming pools one has a big tube slide. Golf, lawn games, so many amenities just ask at the front desk. There is a spa too. If you get a [massage] reserve a mineral soak too. Have to make a reservation for it. The natural springs there are amazing the water comes from the spring naturally carbonated. Really cool. Lots of history there too check it out!"
